This question stops a lot of my leaders in their tracks. They tell me about the stress they’re carrying for their teams, for their family, for their peers, and often for their own boss.
Who is your you? Who is the person who helps you carry the stress when it gets heavy?
This is often met with a blank stare, or even emotion when the answer is, “I don’t know.”
For many folks, that’s the beauty of working with a coach. For the person who is carrying everything for those around them, having a place to share that burden is critical. A place where you’ll be met with empathy, compassion, and tools to help you be able to continue to carry stress for others, while still getting work done.
Right now, there’s not a single person I talk to who isn’t feeling more stressed than usual. Even when the nation reopens, stress isn’t going to magically dissipate.
This is an emergency, and as fire extinguishers have always told us, we need to break the glass in case of emergency.
Break glass is for you if you’re nodding yes to everything I said above. It’s for you if you want to continue to show up and support those you lead and care about.
