In our professional and personal lives, it’s easy to keep moving. You can find any number of ways to stay in motion:
-New business owners can lose months poring over a logo design
-Leaders can lose weeks deciding which candidate to hire
-Job seekers can lose precious days updating a LinkedIn profile
All of those examples keep us in motion…but they’re not moving us anywhere. Picture a hamster on a wheel. The little guy can run all day, but he never gets anywhere. That’s motion, and motion is a very tricky thing. It can easily keep you stuck, by tricking you into thinking you’re moving forward, when you’re actually just running on the hamster wheel.
Action, on the other hand, moves things forward.
-Action is the new business owner landing clients, even without the perfect logo.
-Action is the leader who makes a hiring decision as soon as the right candidate is identified.
-Action is the job seeker who completes their profile quickly.
If there’s a place in your life that you’ve been stuck for a while, and you can’t seem to understand why, check in with yourself. Have you been in motion or have you been taking action? The difference may seem subtle but the switch into action is powerful.
